Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Shiv Navratri has begun at Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar temple on Monday. Jyotirlinga will adorn Shiva's different forms throughout these nine days leading to Maha Shivratri on February 26. However, this time, the festival will be celebrated for 11 days instead of the usual nine.

The priest applied turmeric to Mahadev as part of the pre-wedding ritual 'Haldi' ceremony on Monday.

Malayagiri sandalwood, kumkum made of turmeric, and gulal made of flowers were used. The temple committee has used natural products on the suggestion of the expert committee constituted by the Supreme Court to avoid any material that may cause erosion of the Shivlinga.

The temple committee has made special arrangements for the worship material used during the 11-day-long festival.

High-quality turmeric, kumkum, abir, gulal, and sandalwood have been purchased from the local vendors. Khandsari sugar will be used for 'Rudra Abhishek.'. Similarly, natural fruit juice will also be prepared under special supervision for the 'Abhishek.'.
