Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A local court of Shillong has granted bail to two of the alleged co-accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.
Assistant public prosecutor Tushar Chanda said Lokendra Singh Tomar, the owner of the flat where Sonam Raghuvanshi had stayed after escaping from Meghalaya, and Balbir Ahirwar, the security guard, were granted bail by the court.
“The sections under which they were charged were bailable and they had no role to play in this murder,” Chanda said.
Earlier, after the hearing on July 2, the court had sent another co-accused Silom James to judicial custody for 14 days. James has reportedly engaged a lawyer from Indore to take up his bail matter during the next hearing.
Sonam’s family returns jewellery
Sonam’s family has returned jewellery worth lakhs of rupees to Raja’s family. These included a ring, bangles, and a gold necklace that were gifted to Sonam during the wedding. Before leaving for Shillong, Sonam had left all the jewellery at her parental home, except for the mangalsutra and a ring, which are currently with the Shillong police.
The family handed over the jewellery to Raja’s family through the city police saying that they had no rightful claim over it. “These items were gifted by Raja’s family, so it is only right to return them,” they said.
On the other hand, Raja’s wedding gifts and cash given by Sonam’s family have not been taken back. The family said, “We performed kanyadaan (the sacred giving away of the daughter in marriage), so we will not take back what we have given.”
