Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): Three persons were killed and eight injured in a head-on collision between a jeep and a car in Jhabua district, police said on Monday.

The accident occurred at Agraal village near Meghnagar town, about 22 km from the district headquarters, on Sunday night, T S Dabar, in-charge of Meghnagar police station said.

Two persons were killed on the spot, while the third victim succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the district hospital, he said.

The deceased were identified as Gopal Ganawa (44), a resident of Karmadi village, Dhirji Damore (40), a resident of Golarunda village and Ramchand Baberiya (42), a resident of Petlawad village. The trio died on the spot.

Of the eight injured persons, one has been referred to Vadodara in neighbouring Gujarat, while seven are undergoing treatment at Meghnagar health centre and district hospital, the official said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further probe was underway, he added.

Sources claimed that the people travelling in the jeep were returning after visiting Baba Dev temple, the main pilgrimage site of the district when the accident happened.

Family worry for ambulance

Many people were injured in the accident, including women and small children and non availability of ambulances at the government hospital added to the agony of the injured people.

Failing to get an ambulance at the spot, two injured were referred from the spot by Rotary Ambulance and later other injured persons were referred to the District Hospital by private car and an ambulance called from a private hospital.

The truth of all the claims of development comes to the fore at a time when basic service like an ambulance to save a person's life is not available in the hospital. Here, the committee also appeared on stretchers to keep dead bodies in the hospital. People also expressed their displeasure about it.
