Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh’s only government-autonomous dental college has introduced an Ortho Pantography (OPG) machine, making advanced jaw X-rays more accessible to patients. The machine has been installed in the dental college and will be dedicated to the patients in a couple of days. While private hospitals charge around Rs 700 for this test, the college will offer it for just Rs 100.
Principal Dr Alka Gupta said that the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has given its approval for the machine, which will help diagnose toothache, infections, decay, tumours, fractures, and other dental issues. This digital X-ray provides a complete view of the jaw, allowing doctors to detect problems more accurately. Every year, over 50,000 patients visit the college for treatment, not just from Indore but from across the division. The addition of this machine fulfills a long-standing demand and will significantly improve patient care.

College specialises in reattaching broken teeth
The college also specialises in reattaching teeth broken in accidents using the splinting technique. If a real tooth cannot be saved, patients are given artificial replacements. However, many people are unaware that broken teeth can be reattached and often throw them away. On average, 5-6 patients visit the hospital each month with such injuries, including children who break their teeth while playing.
“With the new OPG machine, dental treatment will become more efficient for both patients and doctors. It is an advanced machine which will ease the surgeries as well.” Dr Alka Gupta, Principal, Govt Dental College
