Indore: Youth Beaten To Death Over Theft Suspicion; 4 Arrested, One Absconding

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 32-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by five men who suspected him of stealing iron parts from a bridge construction site in Azad Nagar, police said on Friday.

The accused reportedly thrashed him with iron pipes, causing fatal internal injuries. The deceased, identified as Umendra Singh Thakur, a resident of Shivnagar, was found seriously injured in bushes near the PTC petrol pump on Tuesday. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

According to Additional DCP Zone-1 Aalok Sharma, Umendra was beaten by five men — Ramawtar, Bahadur, Sail, Sujeet and Rahul — all locals employed at the bridge construction site. Four of them have been arrested, while a search is on for the fifth accused.

The police say the accused caught Umendra near the construction site, accused him of theft and assaulted him using iron pipes. The cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report, officials said.

Family places body on police station counter

After the post-mortem, angry family members brought Umendra’s body to Azad Nagar police station, where no police personnel were present outside at the time.

In protest, they entered the police station and placed the body on the welcome desk, demanding immediate and strict action against the culprits.

They alleged that contractor employees were involved in the murder and accused police of inaction. Police, however, said that the matter is being investigated from all angles and that the arrested accused are being interrogated to establish exact motive behind the murder.
