Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In an effort to streamline traffic and educate commuters about traffic rules, Indore traffic police have launched a new campaign at eight of the city’s busiest squares. The focus of the campaign is education, not penalties.
Teams of 25 police personnel each would be deployed at—Palasia, Geeta Bhawan, Rasoma and Tower Squares while teams of 10 personnel each would be stationed at Radisson Square, Chanakyapuri, Mhow Naka and Gopur Squares during peak hours. These teams would be rotated on a weekly basis, said additional commissioner of police (Headquarters & Crime) Manoj Kumar Shrivastav.
He added these deployments will rotate. That means the personnel assigned to the first four locations will be shifted to the other four in the next round, and vice versa. The initiative aims not only to manage traffic flow but also to raise public awareness about traffic rules without resorting to fines.
Currently, the campaign covers eight squares, but the traffic police aims to extend it to ten once additional personnel are available. The awareness drive is being conducted in two shifts—9:30 am to 11:30 am and 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm—timed to coincide with peak office hours.
Additional commissioner of police Manoj Kumar Shrivastav said "Our priority is awareness, not issuing challans. If someone is stopped and educated about traffic rules in front of others, the sense of embarrassment will likely make a lasting impact. This is more effective in encouraging rule compliance"
