Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Another liquor shop at a residential pocket in the city was closed down following protest by locals on Thursday.
The recently opened liquor shop was located near Scheme No 71, Chandan Nagar, which drew step protest from local residents who were against opening of a liquor shop in residential colony.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav extends support
They claimed that the drunkards consume liquor in the locality and then create din. As the protest grew, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav reached the protest site and extended support to the demand.
Following the protest and intervention by the Mayor, the liquor shop finally was shut down. The decision came after the Mayor visited local residents on Tuesday evening and assured them that the shop would be closed by Thursday.
Bhargav said that no activity against public sentiment would be tolerated in residential areas. “We are committed to keeping Indore a safe, cultured and civilized city,” he stated.
Resident expressed gratitude for swift action
The residents expressed their gratitude for the prompt action and appreciated the administration’s cooperation in addressing their concerns.
