Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A farmer was duped of Rs 47,000 on the pretext of government subsidy on a solar pump, police said on Saturday. Some of the money was frozen by the police and the investigation is on to return the remaining amount to the complainant.
According to additional DCP (zone-1) Aalok Kumar Sharma, Shyam Choudhary, a resident of village Asrawad Khurd, lodged a complaint that he had searched for a number for a solar pump on the internet.
When he found a number and made a call on it, the receiver told him that he was the officer of the company and informed him that his company was providing the subsidy on the solar pump. He gave another mobile number to the complainant and told him to talk to the person to get more information about the subsidy.

When he made a call to another number, the receiver informed him that he could get a subsidy of Rs 3.6 lakh on the pump price of Rs 4 lakh. The accused had lured the complainant to get the pump only for Rs 40,000.
Later, the accused sent a QR code to the complainant and told him to transfer Rs 2,500 for the registration, Rs 11,999 for the transportation, Rs 15,500 for GST, subsidy charges of Rs 10,700 and Rs 6,500 on the pretext of document verification and processing. The complainant sent 47,000 to the accused in 13 transactions.
When the accused demanded more money, the complainant doubted him and he later reached Tejaji Nagar police and lodged a complaint.
Sharma further said that a complaint was lodged on helpline number 1930. The police took action and managed to freeze Rs 37,000 in the bank account of the accused and the investigation is on into the case.
