Indore: City Mulls Buying Robotic Fire Fighting Machines For Narrow Lanes

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As part of its ongoing mission to enhance fire safety across the rapidly growing city, Indore Municipal Corporation is mulling buying robotic fire-fighting machines that can be operated via mobile and remote control to deal with flames if erupted in narrow lanes. 

IMC is taking major steps to modernise its fire services with state-of-the-art technology. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav on Monday reviewed a presentation showcasing robotic fire machines and advanced firefighting equipment, aimed at tackling fires in both high-rise buildings and densely populated slum areas.

"Indore is a progressive city witnessing the construction of new multi-storey buildings every day. In such a scenario, it becomes crucial to strengthen our fire protection systems to ensure the safety of every resident," said Bhargav during the demonstration.

The demonstration included a robotic fire-fighting machine that can be operated via mobile and remote control, a significant advancement particularly effective for use in narrow lanes and crowded localities. The mayor said that such technology is essential in adapting to the city’s changing landscape.

Among other developments, Bhargav announced that the procurement process is underway for a specialised fire vehicle capable of tackling fires at heights of up to 70 meters, catering specifically to the city's growing number of high-rises.

He also highlighted the need for AI-based, camera-operated fire response systems that can detect and respond to fires in real time, further boosting the efficiency and speed of emergency services.

"World-class firefighting equipment is now being manufactured in India," Bhargava said. "We had earlier presented this technology to the Madhya Pradesh cabinet and now we are working towards establishing modern fire stations in all four corners of the city, creating a robust and responsive fire network," he added.

The event was attended by senior IMC officials, including additional municipal commissioner Rohit Sisonia and representatives from the fire department.
