Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On Tuesday morning, a group of cyclists gathered at Shivaji Vatika to participate in a city ride organised to observe World Bicycle Day. The event began at 6:00 AM and followed a set route across several key city landmarks.
The ride commenced from Shivaji Vatika, proceeding through Regal Square, Krishnapura Chhatri, Rajwada, and Boliya Sarkar Chhatri, before concluding at Gandhi Hall. The route was designed to cover both cultural sites and public spaces, drawing attention to cycling as a means of urban transport.
The initiative was led by CA Rajkumar Shah, who was joined by professionals and individuals from various fields. Among the 20 male participants were CA Rajesh Asrani, Sudhir Wadhwani, Sunil Kashvi, Arjun Chaurasiya, Raminder Reki, and Milind Sharma.
Eight women also took part, including Priti Jain (homemaker), Dolly Dhir, and Veena Naik (both doctors).
“Bicycling is a practical way to encourage movement and reduce dependency on fuel-based vehicles,” said CA Rajkumar Shah, emphasising the role of such events in promoting mobility alternatives.
The ride maintained a steady pace, with participants wearing helmets and following traffic regulations. The group paused briefly at each stop for coordination and hydration.
“Participation in events like these supports public awareness of cycling as an option for daily commuting,” said professor Satika Apte, who joined for the second consecutive year.
No roadblocks or traffic issues were reported during the ride, and volunteers were stationed along the route for support. Organisers reported positive engagement from passersby and local residents.
