Indore: Amid Met’s heavy rainfall alert, city gets intermittent showers
The Regional Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall on Tuesday
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Amid the alert for heavy-to-very heavy rainfall, Indore continued to witness intermittent showers on Monday morning. Regional Meteorological Department officials had sounded an alert that Indore, Ujjain and other nearby districts would get isolated heavy-to-very heavy rain with thunder and lightning, but replaced it with light thunderstorms warning by the evening.
However, Met officials forecast that Indore district would witness heavy rainfall on Tuesday and the intensity would decrease on July 13.
Citizens woke up to a rainy morning as showers with different intensities continued since Sunday night. As much as 18 mm rainfall was recorded in the city from Sunday night to Monday morning with which the total amount of rainfall in the city reached 250.6 mm, that is, 9.5 inches.
Meteorological department officials said Indore district had received about five per cent excess rainfall as it had received 219.9 mm till July 10 which was about 10 mm more than the normal rainfall during this period, that is, 209.4 mm.
“The low-pressure area over the coastal areas of south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood now lies over the north-west Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast with an associated cyclonic circulation. It’s very likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours. Similarly, the monsoon trough now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Damoh, Pendra Road, Balangir, centre of the low-pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast and, thence, south-eastwards to the east central Bay of Bengal,” Met officials said, adding, “Under the influence of these conditions, heavy-to-very heavy rainfall is expected for two days, while isolated heavy fall will continue till July 15.”

The maximum temperature on Monday was 27.6 degrees Celsius, which was 6 degrees Celsius below normal and the minimum was 21.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1 degree Celsius below normal.
298-mm rainfall at Regal Square
While the western area recorded over 9 inches of rainfall, the central part of the city recorded over 11 inches of rainfall, that is, 298 mm, so far.
