Food Safety Officials Stop Sale Of ₹1.5 Crore Govardhan Ghee Stock In Indore Depot

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Food Safety Administration officials stopped the sale of around 25,000 litres of Govardhan ghee worth nearly ₹1.5 crore at the company depot on Indore’s AB Road on Friday.

The Food Safety Department, along with a team from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), collected 20 samples of ghee in different pack sizes for laboratory testing. 

The stock will remain unavailable for sale until the test reports are received and further orders are issued.

The action was taken under a special campaign launched in Madhya Pradesh in July 2026 to check the quality of milk and milk-based products. Officials are monitoring dairy products entering the state from other regions.

Following instructions from Indore Collector Shivam Verma, food safety officials inspected the Parag Milk Foods Limited depot at Victor House-1, Golden Palace Colony, AB Road, on Aug 6.

During the inspection, officials found Govardhan brand ghee manufactured by Parag Milk Foods Limited, Pune, Maharashtra, being stored and sold at the depot.

The department said the facility is a major supply centre for Govardhan ghee in Madhya Pradesh.

The FSSAI Western Region, Indore Branch team also reached the spot and collected samples after being informed about the company’s central food licence. A temporary stop was ordered on the sale of around 25,000 litres of stock.

In another action, officials inspected Bhavanya Enterprises in the South Harshiddhi area and collected four samples of Gopishree brand ghee for testing.

Around 312 litres of ghee worth ₹1.24 lakh were seized under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Officials also inspected a restaurant in Vijay Nagar following a complaint and found the kitchen lacking required cleanliness and hygiene standards.

Samples of paneer, curd and spices were collected and sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhopal.

The department also inspected establishments in Mhow and collected six samples of gram flour (besan), sweets, sugar and namkeen.

All samples have been sent for testing, and further legal action will be taken after receiving the reports.
