Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With infrastructural work for Simhastha 2028 having started in the city, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) is accelerating the construction of MR-12, a 14- kilometre-long and 60-metre-wide road running parallel to MR-10, to connect the Bypass with AB Road and Bhwrasla.
The project, prioritised for Simhastha 2028, aims to divert heavy vehicles from Ujjain Road directly to the Bypass, reducing congestion on MR-10. However, 800 structures in Ravidas Nagar and over two dozen brick kilns have emerged as a major hurdle in the work.
IDA officials said that while 13 of the 33 brick kilns had been removed with the help of police and municipal authorities, efforts were on to clear the remaining encroachments. The authority has also begun preparations to relocate residents of Ravidas Nagar, with plans to shift eligible families to housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The IDA has completed 3.5 kilometres of the road. However, a critical 1.5-km stretch between Bhangya and Shakarkhedi remains obstructed.
The project also includes the construction of a railway overbridge and a high-level bridge over the Kahn River. IDA CEO RP Ahirwar said that under the Town Planning Scheme-8 (TPS-8, in which MR-12 also comes), private landowners would receive 50% of their land back under the Land Pooling Act, ensuring smooth coordination. The authority has already spent Rs 13 crore on the project so far. A special team, led by SDO Malharganj, has been formed to expedite the removal of encroachments and complete the project on time.
