Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will plant bamboo along the banks of rivers and ponds across the city to prevent soil erosion.

Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal issued the directions during an inspection of plantation works at Sirpur Lake, Manik Bagh Road, the Choithram area, Rajiv Gandhi Square and Nahar Bhandara on Thursday morning. Additional Commissioner Shringar Shrivastava, Garden Officer Shantilal Yadav and other departmental officials accompanied him during the inspection.

At Sirpur Lake, Singhal reviewed plantation work across the lake and its surrounding areas and directed officials to plant bamboo along the banks to strengthen the soil and check erosion.

He also instructed officials to undertake gap-filling plantation across all green belts and road dividers, including along the Ring Road, to increase green cover and ensure that vacant stretches are planted.

The commissioner later inspected plantation work in the Choithram Mandi area and at Manik Bagh Devi Ahilya New Garden. Officials were directed to assess the condition of existing plants and undertake fresh plantation in vacant spaces wherever required.

During his inspection of plantation sites at Rajiv Gandhi Square and Nahar Bhandara, Singhal again directed officials to plant bamboo along riverbanks as a measure to control soil erosion.
