Alot: Hundreds of dead fish found in Kshipra, villagers panic

Alot (Madhya Pradesh): Locals from Alot and its adjoining villages in Ratlam district were shell-shocked after they saw hundreds of dead fish and other aquatic creatures floating in the Kshipra river.

Villager Jagdish told that the Kshipra enters into Rajasthan through Karma Khedi, Langar Khedi villages and re-enters Madhya Pradesh in Mandsaur district and subsequently merges into the Chambal river.

Since last couple of days, hundreds of fish and other creatures are dying due to unknown reasons in the Kshipra river passing through Karma Khedi and Langar Khedi villages, he said.

Dead fish are piling up on the banks of the river and other creatures like sparrows and snakes too are falling prey in appreciable numbers as a result there is panic among the villagers and they are speculating that fish and other creatures are dying due to contaminated water or due to lack of oxygen in the water, or someone has mixed poisonous chemicals in the water and many more reasons.

Villagers who are dependent on the Kshipra for their daily needs informed that many secrets of the Kshipra river are still to unravel, like last year there were three consecutive explosions in the river within five days. For which an investigation team of the Geographical Survey of India had come, but till now no headway disclosure has been made about the investigation. Perhaps this may affect the ecological system of the area. This bizarre scene has been seen for about 3 km by the people.

When contacted Alot sub-divisional officer Manisha Vaskale said that the fisheries department has been asked to conduct an investigation of this phenomenon and possibly today the team will come and investigate the matter, only after the investigation, the correct information will be available and concerned area's Patwari will be sent to the spot.
