Kolkata: Ending speculation, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has retained his position as national general secretary of the party.
A week after party supremo Mamata Banerjee suspended all the national posts in the party, in a closed-door meeting at her residence in Kalighat in south Kolkata, Abhishek Banerjee was once again given the post of national general secretary of the TMC.
Addressing the media, TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee said some of the posts were decided in the closed-door meeting on Friday.
“Vice presidents of TMC in the national working committee are Subrata Bakshi, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Yashwant Sinha. Yashwant Sinha, Amit Mitra and few others will decide upon the party’s economic and external policies,” said Chatterjee.
Chatterjee also claimed that TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray will be the official spokesperson of the party at Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar will be the spokesperson at the Lok Sabha.
“There will be three official party’s spokesperson. Apart from Sukhendu and Kakoli, Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra will also address from the national capital. Firhad Hakim will be the coordinator between chairperson Mamata Banerjee and the national working committee,” further mentioned the TMC secretary general.
It can be noted that on February 12 after the news of rift between Mamata and her nephew made it to the headlines, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee cancelling all national posts had constituted a 20 members committee which included her.
Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev and Subal Bhowmick are made the conveners of Tripura, Ashok Tanwar convener of Meghalaya, Rajeshpati Tripathi, convener of Uttar Pradesh.
“Apart from these leaders Luizinho Faleiro from Goa and Mukul Sangma from Meghalaya were also present at the meeting. A WhatsApp group will be created so that a clarity of work is maintained,” claimed TMC secretary general.
According to TMC sources, the TMC supremo during the meeting had asked everyone to work ‘unitedly’.
“TMC has grown and is even eyeing outside West Bengal. So everyone should be united and work for the interest of people,” said the party sources, quoting Mamata.
