Fresh incident of violence erupted in Hooghly’s Rishra area during Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Ram Navami rally on Sunday evening.
During the rally of BJP national vice president Dilip Ghosh, stones and bombs were hurled and local vehicles were set on fire.
Talking to the media, Ghosh alleged that police were seen standing as mere spectators while stones and bombs were being hurled targeting BJP’s rally.
“Once again the police administration failed in giving security to people. We are in a danger zone and the police didn’t help us. Sounds of bombs were heard but I don’t know who and on whom it is being hurled,” said Ghosh.
According to BJP sources, several BJP supporters have sustained severe injuries.
State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar had written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the incident.
“Bengal is going out of control. Mamata Banerjee is unable to control the riots. She is protecting a particular community and targeting Hindus. Wrote to Union Minister @AmitShah ji for immediate help in West Bengal,” said Majumdar.
The Governor CV Ananda Bose claimed that by creating such violence ‘the lawbreakers are playing with fire. They will be booked as we are deternied’.
Slamming the saffron camp’s Ram Navami ‘Shobhayatra’, TMC spokesperson and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said that BJP in the name of Shobha Yatra is spreading ‘violence’ in the state.
It can be recalled Howrah’s Shibpur area turned into a warzone on both Thursday evening and Friday morning during the saffron camp’s Ram Navami rally.
Section 144 is imposed at several places in Howrah and internet service was also stalled at several places.
Meanwhile, referring to the violence at Howrah, Union Minister Anurag Thakur slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and called her ‘biased and anti-Hindu’.
“Ram Bhakts are being beaten in Bengal and Shobha Yatra is being halted but even then the Chief Minister is supporting a particular community. She is anti-Hindu,” Thakur was heard saying.
