Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Saumya Kashyap, the wife of a police constable, died by suicide following alleged harassment by her in-laws. Police reported on Sunday that Saumya was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence.

Before ending her life, Saumya posted a video on Instagram in which she made serious allegations against her in-laws. In the clip, she accused them of mentally harassing her and pressuring her husband, Anurag Singh, a constable posted with the Eagle Mobile unit at Bakshi Ka Talab police station, to remarry. She further claimed that her brother-in-law had threatened to kill her.
Cops were alerted after the video began circulating on social media. Saumya’s family, who reside in Mainpuri, were informed and were on their way to Lucknow, reported PTI. Police stated that a case will be registered once a formal complaint is filed by the family. Meanwhile, an investigation into the matter is underway.
MHADA Official’s Wife Found Dead in Mumbai; Family Alleges Harassment & Murder
In a separate case in Mumbai, 44-year-old Renu Katre was found dead by suicide at her residence in Kandivali East, ANI reported on Sunday. Renu was the wife of Bapu Katre, a sub-registrar with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
According to police, Renu allegedly took her own life by hanging. The incident reportedly followed a series of domestic disputes with her husband, primarily over financial matters. Her family claimed that a major argument occurred on Saturday night, which may have pushed her over the edge.

However, Renu’s brother, advocate Nitin Shewal, has contested the suicide claim, alleging that his sister was murdered. He has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
In response, the Mumbai Police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to abetment to suicide. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the authenticity of the claims and whether any foul play was involved.
