A newlywed groom was allegedly assaulted by his bride on the first night of marriage, followed by a family clash the next day that left him injured in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur.

The incident took place in Bilaspur’s Laxminagar locality. The groom, Kanhaiya (22), who runs a bakery, had married a woman from Kichha on March 29. After the bride’s arrival at his home, a reception was held for relatives and neighbours, and the atmosphere remained normal until night.

According to family members, an argument broke out between the couple shortly after they were sent to their room. Hearing the commotion, relatives intervened. The groom alleged that the bride slapped him multiple times and grabbed his neck during the dispute. Police were called to the scene and questioned both parties.

The groom’s family claimed the bride expressed unwillingness to accept the marriage. The matter escalated the next day during a panchayat (community meeting), where both sides gathered to resolve the dispute.

During the meeting at the tehsil, tensions flared again, and members of the bride’s family allegedly assaulted the groom, hitting him with a brick and injuring his head. He was rushed to a community health centre for treatment.

Later in the evening, another panchayat was held, during which the bride clearly refused to stay with the groom. A written settlement was reached, and she returned to her parental home. Police confirmed that both parties have submitted the agreement and the matter has been resolved.
