Thiruvananthapuram: With the monsoon to hit the state in a few days, Kerala is bracing for heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the northern part of the state, including Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, and Kozhikode.

The city woke up at 6:03 AM and the sun is likely to set at 6:35 PM. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 26 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, respectively.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely in Kochi, Kottayam, Palakkad, Pattambi, Punalur, Thavanur, Munnar, Kottayam, and Kumarakom districts of Kerala. The rainfall is likely to be accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

The wind is likely to blow at 30-40 kmph. The humidity is expected to be around 86 per cent, and the wind is expected to blow from 18 km/h. The skies are expected to be cloudy, and it is expected to remain the same throughout the day.

The southwest monsoon will reach Kerala soon

The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala between May 22 and May 27, which is a few days earlier than the usual June 1st arrival date. This means you can expect the rainy season to begin a little earlier than usual in Kerala.

What is the reason behind pre-monsoon showers?

Kerala is undergoing pre-monsoon rainfall, referred to as mango showers, because of the effect of a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea.
