Hyderabad: A tunnel collapsed in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district on Saturday. Several workers are feared trapped. According to reports, at least six workers are feared trapped.
On Saturday, a portion of the tunnel located behind the Srisailam dam collapsed, reported NDTV. The incident took place on the under-construction stretch Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project in Nagarkurnool district.
The roof of the tunnel collapsed at the 14th kilometre-mark. Notably, the tunnel had reportedly opened four days before the tragic incident.
The construction company's team has gone inside for assessment, reported PTI.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the tragic incident. "CM Revanth Reddy expressed condolences over a mishap at the SLBC tunnel. CM alerted the officials soon after receiving information about the collapse of the roof at the tunnel and that some people were injured in the incident," the Telanaga CMO said.
Reddy directed the authorities to rush to the spot and start a rescue operation.
"The CM ordered District Collector, SP, Fire Services department, HYDRAA to rush to the spot and take up relief measures immediately," it added.
