Rajasthan Intelligence has arrested Assistant Administrative Officer Shakur Khan, who was working at the Employment Office in Jaisalmer, on serious charges of espionage. He has been accused of sending confidential information of strategic importance to Pakistan.
“Shakur Khan’s activities had been under suspicion for a long time and were being closely monitored by security agencies. He was detained on May 28, and after detailed interrogation, we have arrested him under the Official Secrets Act, 1923,” said Vishnu Kant Gupta, Inspector General of Police, CID Security.
The IGP said that during surveillance, it was revealed that Shakur Khan was in constant contact with individuals working in the Pakistan Embassy, especially Ahsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish — who was recently expelled from India and declared an ‘undesirable person’ by the central government — and Sohail Qamar.
After being detained on May 28, Shakur Khan was interrogated in detail by various intelligence agencies at the Central Interrogation Center in Jaipur. During questioning, it emerged that he had obtained a Pakistani visa several times with Danish’s help and traveled to Pakistan, where he met agents of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
He allegedly returned to India under ISI’s instructions and collected strategically important information, which he transmitted to Pakistan through platforms like WhatsApp. This is considered a serious national security breach, as Khan, being a government officer, had access to sensitive data.
Notably, Khan served as the personal assistant to Saleh Mohammad until 2013. Mohammad is a prominent Congress leader who was an MLA from 2008 to 2013 and later served as a cabinet minister in the previous Congress government of the state.
Sources said intelligence agencies have found several anonymous and suspicious phone numbers on Shakur Khan’s mobile phone.
