In a bizarre and high-voltage drama, Naresh Jat, a CRPF Jawan, held his wife and daughter hostage for more than 18 hours, fired several rounds in the air from his light machine gun and in the end shot himself in Jodhpur.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he was declared brought dead.

The incident took place at CRPF's Recruit Training Center located at Paldi Khichian in Jodhpur. The CRPF jawan was annoyed over not getting leave and some other issues as well.

Jodhpur Commissioner Ravi Gaur said, "We were trying to talk to Naresh since Sunday evening, his parents were also called in from Pali. His officers were trying to exhort him but he shot himself with a machine gun on the chin. The reasons are yet to be investigated."

The commissioner informed that both the wife and daughter are safe.

The fatal drama started at around 6 on Sunday evening. It is being told that the CRPF jawan had an altercation with his senior officer regarding his leave and a complaint against his colleague but the officer denied his request and did not even listen to the jawan's complaint.

The matter escalated after the senior officer threatened to sack Naresh, following which he got angry and went inside the quarter locking his door with his wife and 6-year-old daughter inside. After this, the jawan came out into the gallery with a light machine gun (LMG) and started firing in the air.

The other officers reached the spot, and the police were called to take control of the situation. Commandos wearing bulletproof jackets were also present but could not take any action as he was holding an LMG and his family was inside the house.

Later at night, his parents were called from Pali to convince Naresh to not take any such step but it did not matter. The jawan had put conditions to surrender in front of the IG of CRPF after which the IG spoke to Naresh over the phone and even left from Jaipur to meet him, but before he could reach the base, Naresh shot himself.
