Chandigarh: Hours after prominent realtor Ranjit Singh Gill joined BJP, the Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) conducted raids at his house in Chandigarh and office in nearby district Mohali Saturday morning.
The raids were conducted in heavy police presence at his residence in sector 2, Chandigarh and his real estate company Gillco Valley headquarters in nearby Kharar town.
Gill was inducted into BJP by Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini at his official residence on Friday night. Prior to joining the saffron party, Gill was in Shiromani Akali Dal (DAL) and was considered to be close to SAD chief Sukhbir Badal. He quit SAD on July 12.
Alleging that the ruling AAP was pressuring Gill - a strong contender from Kharar assembly seat in the 2027 polls - to join AAP, the BJP leaders claimed that was why he joined BJP quickly, yet, the VB raided his office and house in the Saturday morning itself.

Gill had fought the 2022 assembly polls from Kharar but had lost to AAP’s Anmol Gagan Maan.
Several BJP leaders alleged it was political vendetta as he had joined BJP.
State BJP president Sunil Jakhar said in his post on X: `The timing of the Vigilance raid on Ranjit Singh Gill is a manifestation of the government's arrogance. A government that has itself become a land mafia does not tolerate a builder choosing his own political path. Such tactics by the government to intimidate and threaten those with opposing ideologies not only expose the government's mindset but are also completely against democracy’’.
