Initial investigations reveal that Mehron, an extremist Sikh figure, had contacted Kaur in early June, inviting her to a vehicle promotional event in Bathinda. She travelled from her home in Ludhiana on 9 June for the purported event but subsequently disappeared. Her body was discovered after local residents reported a foul smell emanating from a car near Adesh University.
The victim had amassed a significant social media following, with 384,000 Instagram followers and 236,000 YouTube subscribers.
Shortly after the murder, Mehron posted a video online confessing to the crime, justifying it as retaliation for what he deemed her "immoral and vulgar content." The extremist leader also issued warnings to other social media personalities against producing material he considered objectionable.
Police interrogations of the two arrested suspects revealed that Mehron had planned the murder three months in advance. Investigators discovered that the accused had visited Ludhiana to monitor Kaur's daily routine and personal habits.
Authorities confirmed they are working with international agencies to facilitate Mehron's extradition from the UAE.
