Odisha: Six Bengal tourists killed, over 40 injured in road mishap; PM Modi, Mamata Banerjee condole
The incident took place past midnight near Durgaprasad village in Ganjam and 15 people among the injured are in serious condition, the police said on Wednesday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday condoled the deaths of six tourists from the state in a road accident while travelling in a hired bus in the Ganjam district of Odisha.
“Sad to know that six of our fellow citizens from WB have succumbed to their injuries, while some others are still struggling with the trauma of a grave road accident today early hours when they were moving in a hired bus in the Ganjam district of Odisha on their way to Vizag,” tweeted Mamata.
The Chief Minister also said that a team is being sent to Odisha to monitor the autopsy of the dead, treatment of the injured and their return and also said that state administration is coordinating with the Odisha government.
“Our administration is coordinating with Odisha officials for speedy post mortem of the dead, treatment for the injured, and their return. Rushing a high level team led by Principal Secretary, Disaster Management and MLA Udaynarayanpur to Odisha,” mentioned Mamata.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi further condoled the tourists' deaths and prayed that those injured in the accident should recover at the very earliest.
“I am deeply pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Odisha’s Ganjam district. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those injured, recover at the very earliest: PM @narendramodi,” tweeted Prime Minister’s office today.
According to police officials, a bus carrying 65 tourists from Bengal, was heading towards Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from Daringbadi in Odisha when the accident happened during the wee hours of Wednesday.
Six tourists from Bengal were killed and 40 others sustained injuries when a tourist bus rolled down in Kalinga Ghat, the officials added.
