Maha Kumbh 2025 stampede has made local authorities and police swing into action. The stampede at Prayagraj in early hours of Wednesday (January 29) has led to at least 30 deaths and injuries to 60 people. New measures are being put in place to ensure that such a tragedy doesn't repeat and the largest religious congregation in the world proceeds smoothly.
Following are some of the measures that have been taken for better crowd control:
Entire Maha Kumbh area made a no-vehicle zone
Vehicles have now been banned from the entirety of Kumbh Mela grounds. The ban includes all sorts of vehicles.
VVIP pass cancelled
VVIP passes have been cancelled. This further means that no document would allow passage of any vehicle deemed to be occupied by a 'VVIP'.
One-Ways Established
The authorities have declared certain roads 'one-way'. This means that traffic in only one permitted direction will be allowed to pass though that road with a return not possible by the same road.
Entry of vehicles into Prayagraj prohibited
Local media has reported that vehicles entering Prayagraj district from surrounding areas are being stopped at the border.
No entry to vehicles in Prayagraj city
The authorities are banning entry of vehicles in Prayagraj city till February 4.
Meanwhile, the probe into the stampede has brought forward names of several IAS and IPS officers.
Among these are Vijay Kiran Anand (IAS, 2009), SSP Rajesh Dwivedi, Vijay Vishwas Pant (IAS, 2004), Vinay Kumar Mishra.
These officials have been accused of mismanagement and issues like not taking steps to prevent unregulated congregation of people.
