Maha Kumbh 2025: As Authorities Race To Manage Stampede Aftermath, Railways Cancel Several Trains
Maha Kumbh 2025 is still going on but now it has a shadow of the deadly stampede that took place in early hours of Wednesday. There have been several changes in train schedules in the region and Indian Railways has even cancelled a few train, including a few special ones.

Police and local authorities on Thursday (January 30) were busy managing the situation following deadly stampede just a day before which claimed 30 lives. After the tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, the government machinery is on its toes to ensure that there is no repeat of the incident on Wednesday. Amid all this, Indian Railways has announced cancellation of trains, even of some special trains.
Here are some of the trains that have been cancelled:
1) Prayagraj-Ayodhya Cantt special train
04117 Prayagraj-Ayodhya Cantt special train will not run for two days, said Jagran media. The train was not run on January 29, it will not run on January 30 as well.
2) Vande Bharat, Shivganga and Chaurichaura express
Agra-Banaras (via Parayagraj) Vande Bharat express has been cancelled. So is New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express.
In addition to this popular trains like Shivganga and Chaurichaura Express have been cancelled. The railways have said that these trains have been cancelled due to operational reasons.
Shivganga Express was cancelled on Wednesday as well.
Stampede Controversy
Sanjay Nishad, a minister in Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath's government, stirred controversy on Wednesday by saying 'minor incidents' like the stampede, often take place when the government is trying to manage movement of crores of people.
