Kuwait Building Fire: PM Modi Calls Urgent Meeting After 49 Indians Killed In Apartment Blaze; MEA Team To Visit On June 13

Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening (June 12) called an urgent meeting to discuss the Kuwait fire incident. According to reports, at least 49 Indians were killed after an apartment/labour camp in Kuwait caught fire on Wednesday, June 12. The Prime Minister also instructed Mos Kirti Vardhan Singh and the MEA team to visit Kuwait. Singh said that the team will be visiting Kuwait on Thursday (June 13) morning.
"PM Modi has called us for a meeting and after the meeting I will visit Kuwait," said Kirti Vardhan Singh.
"We stand with the victims of the Kuwait fire incident, we express our sympathy to them. We had a meeting with PM Modi and tomorrow morning we are travelling to Kuwait. We will take stock of the situation and those who are admitted to the hospital. The identification process of those who have died is underway. Maximum victims are from Kerala and other parts of South India,"
Earlier, External Affairs Minister of India, posted about the incident. "Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait city. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information. Deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. Wish early and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will render the fullest assistance to all concerned in this regard," posted S Jaishankar on X.
PM Modi also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased in a fire tragedy in Kuwait, and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and announces ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the families of deceased Indian nationals from Prime Minister Relief Fund, informed the PMO.
