According to police sources, 22 passengers managed to escape from the bus that was completely charred due to fire

Bengaluru: Seven people travelling in a private bus were charred to death in a road accident near Kamalapura town near Kalaburagi in north Karnataka in the early hours on Friday. The bus was engulfed in fire following an accident between the bus and a tempo trax.

The bus was carrying 29 passengers from Goa to Hyderabad. 22 passengers managed to escape from the bus that was completely gutted.

Hyderabad-based Arjun Kumar along with family and friends had gone to Goa to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. All the passengers on the bus were returning to their homes in Hyderabad from Goa.

According to Kalaburgi superintendent of police Isha Pant, who visited the accident spot, just after the collision, the bus moved a distance, overturned and caught fire. “We are conducting a detailed inquiry into the accident. All the injured passengers are being treated in hospitals," she was quoted in the media.

The driver of the tempo trax was severely injured, sources said.

According to reports coming from Hyderabad, the Telangana government Friday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of those who died in an accident and financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to all those who suffered injuries in the accident.

Expressing shock and grief, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao instructed Health Minister T Harish Rao and minister T Srinivas Yadav to oversee the shifting of the bodies to their native places in coordination with officials.
