Good News! Southwest Monsoon Officially Arrives In Kerala, Might Hit Mumbai Soon
Kerala recorded the official onset of the Southwest Monsoon on Thursday, signalling the beginning of the four-month monsoon season across India. The arrival followed the IMD's forecast by a day and was delayed by about three days compared to its usual schedule. The monsoon normally reaches Kerala around June 1 before gradually spreading to the rest of the country.

The Southwest Monsoon officially arrived in Kerala on Thursday, a day after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast its onset. The arrival was delayed by around three days compared to its normal date.
The monsoon usually reaches Kerala around June 1, marking the beginning of the four-month rainy season across India. The IMD on Thursday issued an orange alert in three districts of Kerala. According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala in the coming days. Moreover, IMD also issued an orange alert in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam for three hours today.
Monsoon In Mumbai
After making landfall in the state, the monsoon is expected to gradually move northward, covering most parts of the country, including Mumbai, in the coming weeks. According to Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are expected to witness partly cloudy skies, with the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain and gusty winds till June 7.
Rainfall Prediction Across Country
The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several parts of India till June 7. These include regions in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and eastern states such as Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
Some areas may also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph.
In northwest India, parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds during June 3-4; West Uttar Pradesh on 5th June. Additionally, the weather department has predicted rain with gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab during June 5 and 6; Uttar Pradesh on 4th June and on 6th June; Rajasthan on 5th June.
In Central India, light to moderate rains with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely over Madhya Pradesh on June 6–7, Vidarbha on June 5–7, and over Chhattisgarh on June 6–7.
In East India, IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (50–60 kmph) over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during June 3–5. Gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely over the islands during June 6–9 and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 3–9.
