Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa's granddaughter Soundarya found hanging at Bengaluru apartment
Bengaluru: Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s granddaughter Dr VY Soundarya, 30, allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru Friday morning.
According to the police, Soundarya was found hanging in her bedroom in her flat at around 10 am by her husband, Dr Neeraj. He had left for work as usual, but when informed by their house help that she wasn’t responding despite several knocks on the door, he rushed back to find her dead.
“A team of three doctors conducted the postmortem, the report of which has been submitted to the tehsildar, and the body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem,” Dr K V Sathish, one of the doctors who conducted an autopsy on Soundarya, said.
Soundarya, daughter of Yediyurappa’s second daughter Padmavathi, was working at a private hospital in the city. She and Dr Neeraj, who were married in 2018, had a baby six months ago.
Karnataka Home Minister Araga Dnyanendra told a TV channel that Soundarya was battling postpartum depression and the family knew about it.
"There is no suspicion. We all knew she was battling depression post pregnancy. Yediyurappa himself brought her to his place at times to make sure she's happy," Dnyanendra said.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other cabinet ministers and senior BJP leaders visited Yediyurappa’s home to pay condolences.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former prime minister H D Devegowda, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman talked to Yediyurappa on the phone, said a statement from Yediyurappa’s office.
