Chennai: The Election Commission of India on Thursday ordered the immediate transfer of DGP Venkatraman, the Tamil Nadu Head of Police Force in-charge. While directing that Venkatraman be posted in a non-election related post, the EC appointed Sandeep Rai Rathore as the DGP of the State.
The development, just over 20 days of polling for the Assembly elections, is significant considering that the DMK Government had not appointed a regular DGP-cum-Head of Police Force and instead resorted to posting an in-charge DGP, a rarity.
