Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at PM Modi for skipping the all-party meeting called on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Addressing the 'Samvidhan Bachao' rally in Jaipur on Monday, Kharge said, "It is the misfortune of the country that when the country's self-respect was hurt, our PM was delivering an election speech in Bihar.”
Reaffirming the Congress party's solidarity with the government over the terrorist attack, Kharge said that in this hour of crisis, "we want to fight together," and that was why an all-party meeting was demanded. "Leaders of all parties came to the meeting, but it is sad that PM Modi did not come. Was Bihar far away? The PM should have come to the all-party meeting, discussed the government's planning, and asked what support it needs from the opposition,” said Kharge.
Taking a jibe at the BJP-led central government for not fulfilling promises, Kharge listed 12 major promises that he claimed the BJP government failed to deliver on. “Fertiliser security, NREGA, education — we gave everything. The 56-inch chest is giving unemployment and inflation. BJP is so far away from Congress," he said.
Accusing the BJP of weakening democratic institutions and the Constitution, Kharge added, “It is because of B.R. Ambedkar's Constitution that a small tea seller could become the PM. You are trying to weaken everything, but you cannot weaken democracy.”
In his address, Kharge also alleged that the BJP talks about Hindu unity, but its leader sprinkled Gangajal after Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie, a Dalit, visited a temple in Alwar.
Notably, the rally was part of Kharge's visit to Jaipur where he held meetings with party leaders and district presidents to strengthen the party organization.
Former CM Ashok Gehlot, party president Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie, and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot also addressed the rally.
