Chennai: Residents in the city woke up at 06:04 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2025. The Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in the city, especially in isolated places, until Sunday. The skies are expected to remain cloudy, and it is expected to remain the same in the city. The rainfall will bring relief to the residents from the soaring temperatures.
IMD predicted rainfall in the city
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a yellow alert for the city, advising residents to take precautions and avoid going outside, particularly near water bodies. The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall due to an active cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, which is currently situated over the southwestern Bay off the Tamil Nadu coast.
A cyclone is forecasted to bring widespread showers across the state over the next five days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several areas of Tamil Nadu, including the capital city, Chennai, and the Puducherry district. Heavy rainfall is likely in the districts of the Western Ghats, from Nilgiris to Tirunelveli, as well as other parts of southern Tamil Nadu.

The light to moderate rainfall is predicted in numerous districts of Tamil Nadu on Friday, including those along the Western Ghats and southern regions like Virudhunagar and Madurai. Meanwhile, Krishnagiri and Dharamapuri are expected to witness heavy rainfall on April 5.
