Goa: Another tourist attacked, Dutch woman stabbed & harassed by bar employee in Canacona; accused arrested

After the tourist started to scream for help, a local person identified as Eurico Nayan Dais came to her rescue.

A Dutch woman was harassed and attacked with a knife by a bar employee in Goa, India. The incident occurred on Thursday evening at a beachside bar in Canacona.

The accused has been arrested following the incident.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Nidhin Valsan, "A resort staffer trespassed into the rented tent of the complainant, when she started to scream for help, one local person came to rescue her from the accused and seeing his presence, the accused ran away. After that the accused returned with a knife, assaulted the local person, further assaulted the complainant, and fled away from the spot."

The accused has been identified as Abhishek Verma and the injured person as Eurico Nayan Dais.

"This is the second incident in the last one week. At the moment, there is an extortion racket being run with help of Goa police in north Goa. This is a reflection of the collapse of law & order and the security of women in the state," Vijai Sardesai, Goa Forward Party President told ANI.

While speaking on the incident, Goa CM Pramod Sawant said that the accused was from Uttarakhand

Sawant also said that Dais will be awarded for saving the tourist from attempted rape and murder.

He further added that hoteliers should obtain 'Goa Labour Card' for their staff while they engage them in service.

"Hoteliers should obtain 'Goa Labour Card' for their staff while they engage them in service. This will help to have their permanent address saved with the labour department. Don't engage staff with criminal records. We have seen that hotel staff are involved in such crimes. Police are investigating this case," Sawant said in the ongoing assembly session.

Harassment and attack

According to the police, the woman was at the bar when the accused employee started harassing her. When she resisted, he attacked her with a knife, causing injuries to her face and hands.

Arrest of the accused

After the incident, the accused employee fled the spot, but was later arrested by the police. The police have also seized the knife used in the attack.

Victim's statement

The victim has filed a complaint with the police, stating that the accused had been harassing her for some time. She also claimed that she had complained about the employee to the bar owner, but no action was taken.

Medical treatment

The victim has been taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The extent of her injuries is not known.

Investigation

The police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault and harassment. They are also investigating the matter further.
