Thalapathy Vijay's Wife Sangeetha Sornalingam Files For Divorce 26 Years After Love Marriage; TVK Chief Accused Of Extramarital Affair

Thalapathy Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TMK), and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam are heading for divorce. According to a report by CNN, Sangeetha has sought divorce and filed a petition in the Chengalpattu Family Court.

Vijay & Sangeetha Divorce Reason

As per ANI, Sangeetha Sornalingam has filed for divorce in the Chengalpattu Family Court, citing an extramarital relationship. Reports claim that she alleged Vijay was allegedly involved in an “extramarital relationship with an actress.”

As the news of the divorce surfaced online, fans started flooding the internet with some questioning Sangeetha's intent while others calling out Vijay. One user tweeted, "Sangeetha files for a divorce from Thalapathy Vijay. Hard time Vijay Anna." Another remarked that February 27 was a dramatic day for politics and entertainment, noting that while Arvind Kejriwal was declared innocent, the TVK leader Vijay’s wife filed for divorce.

Speculation arose over why Sangeetha suddenly accused Vijay, with many suggesting it could be linked to the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. A user wrote, "It seems waited for the election time and filed a complaint on this stuff to show how much it hurts for her personally. Tough pill to sollow for vijay and her wife especially on this eve of an election."

Meanwhile, a copy of the divorce petition is surfacing online. The petition has been filed under Section 27(1)(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 & 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Section 27(1)(a), (b), (d) covers reasons like adultery, cruelty, or desertion as valid grounds for divorce, while Sections 36 & 37 deal with court procedures, maintenance, and related legal formalities after filing for divorce.

The petition reportedly states, "The Respondent (Vijay) was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress. This caused her deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust." The next hearing of Vijay and Sangeetha's divroce case is now scheduled for April 20, 2026.

Vijay and Sangeetha got married in 1996 and have been together for 27 years; the couple has two children.
