Actress Shilpa Shinde is currently seen as a participant in the latest season of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The Free Press Journal caught up with the actress for an exclusive interview.
Opening up about her journey from a non-dancer to being a dancer, Shilpa says, “It’s really fun. All the contestants and choreographers are too good. Jhalak is a different kind of a reality show, something which I’ve not done before, so I’m enjoying myself.”
Shilpa also finds it challenging to match the level of her co-contestants, as some of them are trained dancers. She explains, “I want to do what my audience will like. People only see what we performed and on which song but a lot goes behind setting up an act. It is teamwork and every minute detail has to be taken care of. There’s always this tension of matching the other contestants. But I’ve told my choreographer that I have to just match you and we both should look good on stage. I’m happy with that and I think my audience will also like it. It is tough but there’s always enthusiasm that I have to reach a particular level and do something new.”
Shilpa returned to television with Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa after over two years. The actress reveals why she was away from the small screen. “TV is very typical nowadays. After Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!, it was difficult for me to match that level. I didn’t feel like doing the shows that were offered to me. It should be something that the audience will accept. That is important. I don’t want to do something just for the sake of earning money,” Shilpa shares.
Shilpa, who won the 11th season of Bigg Boss, is also following the latest season of the reality show. She gushes, “I’ve seen a couple of episodes. I always try to not watch it but once you watch even one episode, there’s no going back. In our season, there were different flavours and the contestants were not just fighting. So the audience also enjoyed it. I feel this season will also be like ours. I found Sajid Khan, Abdu Rozik, Sumbul Touqeer and Gori Nagori interesting.”
The participation of Sajid has raised eyebrows as the filmmaker was accused by several women during the Me Too movement. Netizens also expressed their disappointment and slammed the makers for having him as a contestant.
Reacting to the controversy, Shilpa concludes, “He is a mature and an experienced person. I believe he’s inside the Bigg Boss house so that he can prove himself and because he’s open to learning new things. Whatever happened to him in the past, maybe usko correct karne woh uss situation mein rehne aaye ho. He was a big name and he is talented. If he’s doing this show in which he can keep his point of view and learn new things, then I think it’s a good opportunity for him. There are some people who want to correct themselves and accepting mistakes is a big thing. I think there’s no need to make an issue. Jo acchi cheez hai usko bhi toh dekho.”
