Actress Shraddha Kapoor is basking in the success of her latest horror-comedy film, Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank, which is now the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. Recently, the actress opened up about the failure of her debut film Teen Patti, released in 2010, and how it 'broke' her heart as she did not expect it to fail.
Speaking to GQ India, Shraddha said that it was 'very difficult' to convince people to cast her until Aashiqui 2 with Aditya Roy Kapur came along, a film that gained her immense popularity. The actress said that after and before Aashiqui 2, she going through a 'hard' time.
"Despite being from the industry, my father (Shakti Kapoor) wasn’t making any calls to get me work. He was always a strong advocate of individualism. He said, ‘I made it on my own; you have to do it too. Face your battles. Don’t rely on me.’ This made me experience rejection and failure on a very personal level. Until Aashiqui happened, it was very difficult to convince people to cast me," Shraddha concluded.
Teen Patti also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley, R. Madhavan, and Raima Sen. Directed by Leena Yadav. The film is produced by Ambika Hinduja under the banners of Hinduja Ventures and Serendipity Films.
Meanwhile, Shraddha is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Red Sea International Film Festival, where she met Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield.
On the work front, Shraddha will be seen next in Naagin, which will go on floors in 2025.
In 2020, Shraddha expressed her excitement on being a part of Naagin and wrote on X, "It’s an absolute delight for me to play a Naagin on screen. I have grown up watching, admiring and idolising Sridevi ma'am's Nagina and Nigahen and have always wanted to play a similar role rooted in Indian traditional folklore."
