SC Grants Protection From Arrest To Shreyas Talpade In Haryana's 'Multi-Level Marketing' Scam Case

The Supreme Court on Monday (July 21) granted interim protection from arrest to Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade in connection with a cheating and breach of trust case involving Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society in Sonipat, Haryana.

According to a report in PTI, a bench comprising Justices BV Nagarathna and KV Viswanathan also issued a notice to the Haryana Police and other parties, seeking their response to a petition filed by the actor.

Shreyas had approached the apex court challenging the FIR registered against him.

What is the case?

The case stems from a complaint filed in Sonipat alleging cheating and breach of trust by a multi-level marketing company. A total of 13 individuals, including actors and brand ambassadors Shreyas and Alok Nath, were named in the FIR.

The charges involve criminal breach of trust, cheating, and fraudulent property transfer. Ajeet Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Murthal, had confirmed in January 2025 that the actors were named in the complainant’s statement submitted to the police.

He had revealed, "The main complaint is against the society that is alleged to have duped people of their money by luring them to invest. We will have to investigate what role, if any, is ascribed to Shreyas and Alok Nath."

Reportedly, a resident of Sonipat had filed a complaint against the society, which is registered in Indore under the Multi-State Cooperative Society Act, 2002. The society, operational across multiple states since September 2016, allegedly lured investors with high-return FD and RD schemes, using a multi-level marketing model to expand its investor base through agent recruitment.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shreyas was last seen in Housefull 5 with Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea and others. He has films like Welcome To The Jungle, Baaghi 4, The Game Of Girgit and The India Story in the pipeline.
