Munawar Faruqui REACTS To Meerut Police's Action Against Roadside Namaz On Eid, Asks 'Koi Festival Roads Pe Nahi Hoga?'

Comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui expressed his disappointment over Meerut Police's recent order, warning Muslims against offering namaz on the side of the roads on Eid. The comedian questioned if the same rule of not hitting the streets would be followed for all other festivals in the country as well.

The Meerut Police issued a circular on Friday stating that those found violating the rules may face legal action, including cancellation of passports and driving licenses. The directive has been issued for the last Friday prayers of Ramzan on March 28, and for Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Sharing a snippet of the news on his Instagram handle, Munawar wrote, "30 minutes ki namaz ke liye yeh? Kya ab koi bhi festival Bharat ke roads pe nahi hoga?"

Netizens supported Munawar's stance and slammed the Meerut Police for the directive.

A few days ago, Munawar was accused of hurting religious sentiments via his show, Hafta Vasooli. The show is a satirical newsroom comedy that provides an entertaining take on trending political and cultural events.

A section of the internet accused him of promoting vulgarity and hurting religious sentiments by using abusive and foul language on the show, and called for its boycott as well.

In 2021, Munawar was arrested for hurting religious sentiments through his stand-up act. He was granted bail after spending over a month in jail.

Meanwhile, it was only a week ago that Munawar visited the holy shrine at Mecca and performed Umrah. "Duniya ki sabse khubsurat jagah Makkah. Allah sabko yanha bulaye, Aur dua aap sabke liye ki hai maine, Muje bhi apni dua me yaad rakhna (sic)," he wrote.

He was accompanied by his wife, Mehzabeen Coatwala, with whom he got married in a hush-hush ceremony in 2024.
