Just last week Shehzada, a remake of Allu Arjun's Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, released, however, the film failed to click at the box office. Today’s release Selfiee is yet another remake of a Malayalam film Driving Licence. Selfiee’s intriguing story will surely allure Hindi cinema goers. It is packed with comic punches and captures the emotions without losing the spirit of the original.

The film’s story is about the tussle between a superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) and his die-hard fan who is an RTO Inspector Om Prakash (Emraan Hashmi). Owing to certain well-presented confusions between Vijay and Om, the film manages to keep you on the edge of the seat. The banning trend of Bollywood brings to light the love-hate relationship between people and the media. Finally, the goodness of the superstar turns the audiences to his favour in comparison to the revengeful attitude of the common man.

Director Raj Mehta proves his mettle of making a likeable Hindi film. He leaves no stone unturned in trying his best to tap the sensibilities of the Hindi audiences. Raj is here to stay especially with Dharma Productions giving him ample chances to prove his worth.

Akshay not only looks as fit as a fiddle but his walk and talk brings in the real stardom attitude befitting to his character. He has meticulously performed the comic as well as emotional scenes. Akshay taking in the bashing from his opponent co-star is a rare found quality in an actor. Hats off to him for facing the bashing in order to keep the purity of the story.

Emraan gives a tough competition to Akshay. His emotional scenes with his son will steal your heart. Diana Penty (as Akshay’s wife) and Nushrratt Bharuccha (as Emraan’s wife) have very little to offer. Abhimanyu Singh and Meghna Malik bring loads of relief moments in the intriguing storyline.

Laughter with well-written light jokes and lines will keep the audiences glued to the screen. The tight screenplay enables the storyline to go ahead smoothly creating comic, competitive, revengeful and emotional moments that enable one and all to be involved in forgetting the outside world.

What’s more is that Raj has successfully managed to hold the cinema lovers with all the human emotions presented well. The fast-paced editing and the background music are added perks.

All in all, Selfiee is at least a one-time watch. It has all the ingredients needed for a film to click at the box-office.
