At the unveiling of 'Who is Tanvi The Great' from Anupam Kher's upcoming film Tanvi The Great on Monday (April 28), the veteran actor began the event in Mumbai by observing a minute's silence to honour the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the tribute, Kher opened up about his decision to return to direction after a long hiatus.
"It took me 23 years to direct this film. Om Jai Jagdish was the first film which I directed, but the idea wasn't mine. I said I will only make a film if it touches my heart and the world's heart. I found the story four years back, when I had a conversation with someone who is special, and then I found people who are brilliant in their art," Anupam explained.
Kher then invited actress Kajol on stage, referring to her as his junior but a better actor. Kajol, who had earlier introduced Tanvi, praised Kher, saying, he is "the most mentally fit man" and is doing everything "which all of us try to do in our lifetime."
When asked why he chose Kajol, Kher remarked it was because "she doesn't take herself too seriously."
After showcasing the first teaser, the makers unveiled a second teaser, revealing the face of the debut actress playing Tanvi - Shubhangi.
The dramatic reveal saw the lights dim, a standee revolve, and through the fog emerged Shubhangi - wearing a brown shawl, a long skirt, and the same pink shoes with untied laces shown in the teaser. The visuals suggest that Tanvi is a sweet, innocent girl who possibly struggles with social anxiety disorder or OCD, as indicated by her hesitation to cross the threshold of her home. However, this remains speculative until the trailer's release.
Speaking at her first press conference, Shubhangi shared that she had to stay off social media and avoid signing any other projects during the film's shoot.
During the media interaction, when asked about the challenges of directing the film, Kher revealed that he plans to release a book detailing how the movie almost never got made - a story he promises to unveil before the official trailer launch.
