The Special Ops 2.0 trailer was cutting edge, with superb action pieces and a great intro. Releasing on July 11, 2025, on JioHotstar, the espionage drama is the sequel to Special Ops (2020) and a spin-off of Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story (2021). While Kay Kay Menon is back as Himmat Singh, also reprising their roles are Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Muzammil Ibrahim, Saiyami Kher and Meher Vij, while new to the series are Prakash Raj and Tahir Raj Bhasin, who plays the antagonist. Special Ops 2 has been filmed in foreign locations such as Budapest, Turkey and Georgia, and this time the threat is cyber-terrorism.
"The five years since the first season, I've played a police officer, a firefighter, a cricketer and much more. The way I was portrayed in Season 1 opened the doors for a variety of roles for me. My only complaint is that I could not have any scenes with KK sir, as he was in Mumbai while we were shooting in the fancy locations," said Saiyami Kher.
"But I love playing action characters where I can beat up the men. I think women can play these roles so well because after all the catcalling we experience on a daily basis, we would love to be able to beat up more of them!" Saiyami added, a stark reminder on the various kinds of harassment women from all spheres of life face.
Vinay Pathak added his dose of humour to the event at regular intervals, especially when rebutting Karan Tacker's claim of a tough shoot at 3 am in 5-degree weather abroad, saying that the real tough weather conditions were faced by him and KK in Mumbai Central's heat!
Towards the end, when asked if the cast can be Special Ops in real life, Kay Kay added an important point. “We will never able to do what they do- it's not a joking matter. They might save your life 5,000 times, but the one time they slip you end up blaming them,” he said, reflecting on the unforgiving nature of the job, helmed by those whose names we may never know.
