Nadaaniyan starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor started streaming on Netflix last month, and it received negative reviews. On social media, Ibrahim and Khushi were trolled a lot for their performance in the movie. Dia Mirza, who played a pivotal role in the film, recently, in an interview with Bombay Times, opened up about the backlash the young actors received.
She said, “I have never been in favour of personal attacks and find them extremely disrespectful. Everyone is free to have an opinion, but it shouldn’t be expressed at the cost of somebody’s mental health.”
“I’ve been concerned, especially for the younger actors, about the harshness of what’s being said. I feel there’s a culture of ‘eat the privileged’, which is harsh, because people have their own stuff to deal with,” the 43-year-old added.
Dia played the role of Ibrahim’s mother in the film. While the two young actors received negative reviews, the four senior actors, Dia, Jugal Hansraj, Suniel Shetty, and Mahima Chaudhary had impressed one and all with their performance in Nadaaniyan.

A few days ago, even Jugal had spoken about Ibrahim and Khushi getting criticised for their performance in Nadaaniyan. In an interview with India Today, he had said, “On social media, I have noticed that there are a lot of personal attacks, which are not criticism. It is just being silly and petty. Who am I to say it is bad? I just say it did not work for me, or I did not connect with it. But some people proclaim as if they know everything.”
Nadaaniyan was produced by Karan Johar and directed by Shauna Gautam.
Not just Dia and Jugal, but many Bollywood celebs have come out in support of Ibrahim and Khushi, and have stated that people should not be so harsh to newcomers.
