72 Hoorain Controversies
As soon as the trailer of 72 Hoorain was released by the makers digitally recently, prominent religious and political leaders in Kashmir slammed the negative portrayal of Muslims in the film, and stated that it "hurts the sentiments" of the community.
Several politicians also accused the film of being a propaganda piece, with the aim to spread hatred against a particular community.
Not just that, the makers had claimed that the Censor Board did not give a green signal to the trailer of the film, and had asked them to remove certain words and scenes from it, which were otherwise allowed in the entire film which has been readied for a theatrical release.
Co-producer Ashoke Pandit's Twitter too got suspended amid the 72 Hoorain row.
Ashoke Pandit slams Censor Board
During the trailer launch of 72 Hoorain, Pandit came crashing down on the Censor Board and chairman Prasoon Joshi for not passing the trailer.
"We are going to rip off the Censor Board. Who are these people sitting there? It's a very serious matter. All the authorities of the censor board are answerable to this decision of rejecting the certificate to the trailer of a National Award winning film," he had said.
For the unawares, 72 Hoorain, starring Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir in lead roles, focuses on a suicide attack in Mumbai and the consequences of violent extremism. It revolves around the alleged promise of 72 virgins to men once they go to heaven after laying their lives for their religion.
72 Hoorain is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 7.
