A block primary education officer (BPEO) from Moga district was suspended by the Punjab government on Tuesday after his dance video with wife inside his office went viral on social media.

Moga: The Punjab Government on Tuesday suspended a block primary education officer (BPEO) from Moga district after a video of his alleged misconduct went viral on social media. In the video, BPEO Devi Prasad was seen dancing with his wife in his office.
Prasad was posted in the Baghapurana sub-division. The Punjab Education Department issued a statement in this regard.
In the statement, the department said that Prasad was suspended for his misconduct in a viral video,” as reported by The Indian Express. Notably, the action was taken against education secretary Anindita Mitra after Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains intervened in the matter.

Bains assured of strict action against officials found violating rules. A showcause notice has also been issued to Prasad over his viral video.
In the one-minute clip, the BPEO could be seen performing on the Bollywood song ‘Tum roothi raho, main manata rahun, ki inn adaayon pe aur pyaar aata hai.’ Prasad told authorities that the video was filmed in July this year while he was on election duty, a senior Moga education department official said, as reported by the media house.
The suspended official said that the clip was made for only "entertainment" purpose when he was spending a few hours in his office with his family. As per Prasad, his wife runs a YouTube channel, and his children uploaded the clip there.
Prasad reportedly belonged to Punjab’s Ferozepur. He was posted in Moga during an election duty. “My wife had joined me in the office as it was our marriage anniversary. The video was only for fun,” he said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
The suspended official is yet to reply to the showcause notice.
