Maharashtra Govt Extends Tenure Of Committees Preserving Historical Leaders’ Writings Until May 2025

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday extended the tenure of six committees responsible for publishing and preserving the writings of prominent historical figures. The decision was formalised through a government resolution (GR) issued by the Higher and Technical Education Department, extending the committees’ tenure until May 15, 2025, or until their restructuring, whichever happens first.

The committees include those dedicated to the works of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Lokmanya Tilak, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Sahityaratna Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe, and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

This extension follows previous GRs issued on July 1 and October 25 last year, which had earlier granted additional time for these committees to continue their work. The committees play a significant role in preserving and publishing the speeches, writings, and historical records of these leaders, ensuring accessibility for scholars, researchers, and the general public. Their tenure had been nearing completion, prompting the government to provide further extension to facilitate the ongoing work.

The committees have been instrumental in compiling, editing, and publishing crucial historical documents related to these six figures, contributing significantly to academic research and ensuring that Maharashtra’s rich socio-political heritage remains preserved for future generations. The extension will allow them to complete pending projects while the government evaluates potential restructuring for their future operations.
