Maharashtra Closes RTE 2025 Student Registration; Over 2.3 Lakh Applications Received For 1.09 Lakh Seats

Mumbai: The Maharashtra School Education Department has officially closed its student registration process for Right to Education (RTE) 2025 admission, which reserves 25% of school seats for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups.

According to officials at the Education Department, more than 2.3 lakh applications were received for about 1.09 lakh seats available across 8,863 schools in the state. In Mumbai alone, more than 10 thousand applications were submitted for about 4,500 seats in 255 schools.

The verification process for all applications will now commence, following which the results of the lottery draw will be announced. Parents of children whose names appear in the lottery will need to secure admission to the allotted school by submitting the required documents. No admission or school fees will be charged to these parents.

The RTE Act guarantees free education for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups from Classes I to VIII in English-medium schools. The government reimburses the tuition fees for these students to the respective schools.

The registration process for schools under the RTE quota for the 2025 academic year began on 18th December 2024. The initiative continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring equitable access to education for underprivileged children across Maharashtra.
