Kerala Board Increases Grace Marks For SSLC, Plus Two Students Excelling In Extracurricular Activities
The Kerala Board of Public Examinations has enhanced the grace marks system for SSLC and Plus Two students involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, and NCC. The new policy increases grace marks for state and national-level events, as well as science fairs. However, grace marks will only assist students in passing, not in improving their grades.

Kerala SSLC, Plus Two Exams Marking Scheme: The Kerala Board of Public Examinations has brought in a better marking scheme for Class 10 (SSLC) and Class 12 (Plus Two) students who are undertaking extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, NCC, and science fairs. The new policy provides additional grace marks for students performing well in different categories.
Additional Grace Marks for Sports, Arts, and Other Activities
- Students appearing for state-level sports or arts competitions can now score a maximum of 15 grace marks, up from the earlier 10.
- Grace marks for national-level competitions have been increased from 15 to 20.
- NCC, Scout, and Guide cadets will now be able to claim up to 10 grace marks, double the earlier limit of 5.
- Science, maths, or IT fair participating students can also obtain 10 grace marks, increasing from 5 marks previously.
Clarification on Use of Grace Marks
The board has clarified that grace marks will solely help students to pass the examination but not score better grades. For example, grace marks are able to relocate a student from failing to pass but cannot take their grade level from B to A. The total grace marks a student can receive across all categories remain capped at 30 marks.
Implementation and Benefits
The Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan will conduct this policy in all the schools that follow the state syllabus. This measure is intended to assist students who have academic responsibilities as well as active participation in extracurricular activities.
